David Underwood Art
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Florida in 1974 (an original Florida man) I was adopted by 2 loving parents. Soccer was my main focus as a youth, playing in a professional league while still in high school, but I’ve always been an artist at heart.
Married 21 years in Durham to my great love Abigail, we have 5 children between us. 3 adult children and 2 teenagers together.
Mental health challenges and the advice and love of my wife pushed me into creating DAILY as a form of therapy around 2009. By 2017 I was willing to show my work to the public.
I paint with emotion and without respect for normality. Having never taken an art class I’ve learned to show depth, feeling and passion through my OWN methods. My bipolar disorder determines what this means, so many paintings are quite different but most with a healthy dose of pareidolia. With heavy texture, dots, manic strokes or even sculpture work, my work is easily recognizable as an original David Underwood.

The artwork is a vivid exploration of geometric abstraction, masterfully executed through the use of bold colors and angular shapes. The artist's choice to incorporate a palette dominated by black and white creates a striking contrast against the vibrant accents of red, blue, and green. This contrast not only accentuates the individual colors but also enhances the overall dynamism of the composition. The sharp, intersecting lines skillfully guide the viewer's eye across the piece, establishing a sense of movement that is both engaging and invigorating.
One of the artwork's strengths lies in its intricate patterns and dots that decorate the larger sections. These elements add a layer of texture and complexity, inviting the viewer to linger on the details and inspiring a deeper appreciation for the meticulous work that went into the piece. This layering of patterns suggests a playfulness within the strict geometric framework, challenging the viewer to consider the harmony that can exist between rigidity and fluidity.
